Beginning in August, Xbox Live users will be able to download full Xbox 360 games to their consoles via the service. Microsoft made the announcement during a luncheon following its pre-E3 press conference.

Similar to XBLA titles, new releases will be made available weekly for a price comparable to what the boxed version is selling for at retail. Once the service — which is integrated into the Games Marketplace — launches, 360 game download purchases can be made using Microsoft Points or using a credit card.

Mass Effect, Assassin’s Creed and Civilization Revolution were used as examples of titles that will be available via the service. The possibility to downloading games on a rental basis was brought up but not confirmed, with MS stating that it is always looking to evolve its services.

Left 4 Dead 2 Coming to a PS3 Near You

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Left 4 Dead 2 Cover PS3 may be getting its own version of the multiplayer FPS if the official EA website is correct. Not only is PS3 listed in the “Coming Soon” section of the site, but a quick glance of EA’s games page reveals placeholder box art for the game as well. This could be a sign that EA is working on a PS3 port; the company did work on the PS3 version of The Orange Box.

Don’t hold your breathe though Sony lover’s. If you remember the rumor that the first one was coming to PS3 too, but we all know how that went. Until the release date, keep your fingers crossed. Or just buy an xbox360 and then you won’t have to worry about getting good titles.

Full Game Downloads to Xbox 360

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

“Microsoft announced the Games on Demand service for the Xbox 360. Set to launch in August, the service allows 360 owners to purchase and download a select offering of full retail 360 games online.”

I don’t particularly like this and I will list why.

Games are the same price as retail. I don’t receive a disk, manual, case or resale value yet still pay $60.

How large are these games? Bandwidth could be an issue for gamers downloading multiple games a month. This might not seem an issue but if you are watching a lot of Hulu or other online video it could be a problem.  Not to mention if you backup information to a server.

My HD crashed. Is there a record of my games and do I pay full price to re-download?  Could I have backed them up on a separate HD or would I be considered pirating?

I could go on but will leave the rants to Josh.

There is a plus, for these purchase you won’t need points just a credit card.
