Apple is known for announcing its latest and greatest during the keynote speech of their World Wide Developers Conference. With upgrades to their MacBook and MacBook Pro lines, Safari, Quick Time and Snow Leopard they did not disappoint but in the last three years people only want to know about the iPhone.
Apple reaffirmed the features that were announced with the 3.0 software (available June 17th free for iPhone 9.99 iPod Touch) and are available on many cheaper phones. Things like cut/copy/paste and turn by turn directions (Tom Tom is working on an app). Other things that will be available but only if your carrier approves. An example of this would be MMS and Tethering. MMS allows you to send pictures in a text message and AT&T is waiting until later this summer to allow that feature. Why, haven’t we waited long enough? I was able to do this up until I bought the iPhone. Tethering will allow you to connect your phone to a computer and they computer will be able to use the internet connection from the phone, AT&T will not allow the function for its customers. Why? I believe they want to sell air cards for laptops to have internetaccess over the 3G network, with a monthly fee.
iPhone 3G S (the S stands for speed) has been announced. The new iPhone will have the same look as the 3G but the inside will be a bit different. It will be able to use AT&T’s upgraded 3G service for faster browsing speeds. New 3 megapixel camera with the option for still or video images. The camera app will have a Tap to Focus feature, tap the screen and the camera will focus on that spot. Video editing on the phone and email pictures and video, if AT&T will be so kinda to allow us this. Voice control, yea another feature many phones have but can you ask your phone what song is playing? The iPhone will tell you what song is playing when asked, I’d use this feature once. Zero to 50 percent better battery life on video, wifi and talk time.
Price for 3G S $199 16gig and $299 32gig, available June 19th. The 8gig 3G iPhone will be available June 8th for $99.
