rapturerecords

Let me tell you about my two biggest passions.
One is of course, video games. That goes without saying. The other is music. I would give up games in a heartbeat if I had to pick only one or the other for the rest of my life.
Being as I love music so much, I have been a avid record collector for many, many years (way before it was “cool” to buy vinyl, but don’t get me started on that, this is neither the time or place for that.) and the only thing cooler than video game swag, is video game swag that happens to be on vinyl. There’s little to no chance of that happening I can assure you. Or so I thought.

You see, a few weeks ago it came to my (and the rest of the video game public at large as well) attention that Take 2 in all their awesomeness, sent out “promotional” 45’s to the major gaming news sites (Kotaku at least, since that’s where I first heard of it) in support of the hotly-anticipated Bioshock 2.
I instantly ran to ebay to see if one of them made it’s way there. I had to have this record. Unfortunately, there were none.

A few weeks prior I had been directed to somethinginthesea.com, what appears to be a viral site promoting the game. The site is flashed-based and has what appear to be all sorts of clues leading up to the start of the game. It looks as if we the player get to play a guy who’s obsessed with all sorts of weird phenomena around the eastern seashore of the US. Apparently he’s in Long Island somewhere with his wife and daughter when the daughter goes missing. Dun, dun, dun!

Well this is what I am led to believe based on the clues on the site.
“What the hell am I getting at you might ask?” Well upon further investigation of the site I deduced a means to “contact” the game’s protagonist. Or at least the fellow who’s little girl has gone missing.

Needless to say, a few days later (today in fact) I was surprised by a package in an-all-too-familiar (for me anyhow) record mailer.
My mailman shouted over from the neighbor’s house that I got another record. I wasn’t expecting anything, but Hell, I order a ton of vinyl so it could have been ANYTHING.

So, I open up my package (which had NO identifying marks or return-address mind you) to discover, yup, a copy of the Rapture Records 45. The same slab of wax that I have been coveting since Kotaku first broke the news.

So you might be asking yourself, “Well, Hell, how can I get myself one of these fancy Rapture Records?”
Well, folks, I’m not gonna tell you.
Not YET, anyhow.

Go play around on the site and see if YOU can figure out what I did to get the record. Trust me, if you figure it out it will be so rewarding.
Next week I’ll be on the podcast to describe exactly what I did to get it and if you haven’t figured it out by then, well check back and listen live to hear how you can score your own.

If anyone from Take 2 / 2K Games reads this, THANK YOU so much. Not just for the record but for such an ingenious way of procuring one in the first place!
